Zilose Lyons joined CEND in 2010 and is currently the center’s Program Manager. She has been part of the growth of the Center and instrumental in developing CEND’s student engagement programs, annual symposia, and international partnerships spanning Africa, Asia and Latin America. Zilose holds a Bachelors in Development Studies from UC Berkeley and a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. She is a graduate of Contra Costa Community College where her awards included best journalism piece in the California community college system for 2007, and the CCC distinguished alumni award 2008. Prior, she studied journalism at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce in Lusaka, Zambia, and worked as a sports writer for the Zambia Daily Mail national newspaper. Zilose brings to CEND a passion for reducing global health inequities, improving diversity in the biomedical research community, and finding solutions for diseases that continue to plague lower and middle income countries. In her local community, she volunteers regularly in local soup kitchens, and enjoys exploring the Bay Area and connecting with people from all walks of life. In her free time, she is a lover of travel, fashion, and spending time with her family and friends.
