CellScope: Mobile-phone microscope detects eye parasite

by / Friday, 05 June 2015 / Published in stories

The Fletcher Lab at UC Berkeley and its collaborators in the U.S. and around the world are designing technology that turns the camera of a mobile phone or tablet computer into a high-quality light microscope. By combining mobile microscopy with automation and wireless communication, we are creating new ways to tackle applications from infectious disease diagnosis to classroom education.

Daniel Fletcher is a professor of Bioengineering at UC Berkeley as well as a CEND faculty member. One of the graduate students on his team, Matthew Bakalar, is a recipient of the CEND-sponsored Kathleen Miller Fellowship.
